In Joseph Heller's _Catch-22_, Yossarian would sit on his bunk holding the
cord to the light and his Army-issue .45 caliber handgun, waiting for
the scratching sounds of a marauding enemy mouse.  Upon hearing the mouse,
he would yank the light on and blaze away at the corners of his tent.
I think he finally did get the mouse.
