We have used ALF for both dedicated terminal applications (terminal at security desk), and for more unusual applications, like a Schlage Electronic Access Control system, which logs into a VAX when a door opens and enters the "access record" (who came into the computer room) into OPCOM and thus logs "physical" security information with "data" security information.
