Do either of these programs > play a challenging game? We have not previously heard of either. I am not a big chess player, but I will ocassionally play a game on my Amiga. I am using Chessmaster 2000. Its a full-featured implementation -- fast, with timers, 2-D or 3-D board, various setup options, game storage, etc. They even went to the trouble of adding a "special" feature -- you can quickly display a dummy spreadsheet screen on your terminal, just in case you need to fool the wife into thinking that you aren't really ignoring her for a game of chess!
