Just heard (PTI report quoted here) that an attempt was made on the 
life of Rajiv Gandhi early today at a meeting in New Delhi. A man 
dressed in 'military uniform' is supposed to have fired (7?) shots at him. 

RG and Zail Singh were at a prayer service. 

Rajiv and Zail escaped unhurt. One gunman has been arrested (speculation
that there might have been two).

A quick call to India reveals that (at least the folks I called in Madras),
it is not yet news there. BBC and Deutschewelle have been silent so far.
