What bullshit!  There was a desire for a common descriptive term
which could be used by heterosexuals or homosexuals, women and men,
married or single-living-together or single-living-apart -- without
necessarily publicizing to casual acquaintances details of their
private lives and living arrangements, such as results using
terms like "lover."  But does all this translate into a general
avoidance of commitment by people who use the phrase?  I think not.
