In _Meloncholy Elephants_ by Spider Robinson, there's a great story about
just such an occurence.  I won't spoil it for y'all, but it's well worth
reading.  In fact, most everything Spider Robinson has written is
filled with very human sagas that are both entertaining and enlightening
[just had to take the opportunity for this quick plug for my favorite
author].
