This was not so true in churches I had gone to in >the past, where dancing was not accepted as proper Christian behavior. > I am delighted that this point is being raised. A couple of generations ago, church was where practically EVERYBODY met their mates; in a time when churches were pretty central to North American society, it went without saying that they were the focus of activities beyond "worship"! In some places, so I have been told, the custom was that on Sunday mornings you went to "your own" church, i.e., the one your parents had gone to or the one whose doctrines you liked best. Then on Sunday evenings you went to whichever church in town was known for having the best selection of members of the opposite sex. And you stuck around for the social hour afterwards. If you like dancing, and you have the impression that dancing is often not considered proper Christian behaviour, you have been hanging around the wrong churches! Look for one higher up the Liberal Behaviour scale, which I have just invented: Unitarian Universalist (outside New England) United Church of Christ Roman Catholic (with young priest) United Presbyterian Unitarian Universalist (in New England) United Methodist Lutheran, Missouri Synod or Evangelical Southern Presbyterian Roman Catholic (older priest) Baptist Mormon Anything with "Bible" in the name of it (Disclaimer: the above list is biased, partial, based on stereotypes, inaccurate and disorganized -- and has to do with a lot of things besides attitude to dancing.)
