He refuses, and a court orders him to pay child support. As an aside: What sort of responsible adult gets an IRresponsible juvenile pregnant? When was th last time you heard about RESPONSIBLE juveniles (in the legal sense ) ? >Instead, he proposes that the child be taken away from the girl and be >put in his custody (he has a good job and is a generally ok guy). >Is there be any chance that a court would allow this? > Wayne Hey, have I got an offer for you ! "Allegedly" this really happened a few years ago (maybe its' really a folk tale, but I don't know). Nineteen year old man gets 17 year old girl pregnant. Girl gets Mamas permission to get married to man, and teh couple got married. MARRIED even, already. Papa hates boys' gut. So he goe to police, files a statutory rape charge (over 18 is an adult). Boy goes to jail for STATUTORY RAPE ! Sounds like a good topic for net.legal, hey ? Another scenario I "heard" about, was that a woman agreed to have sex with a man, and he with her, an if a child came of it, SHE AGREED in writing not to hold him liable for child support. She, goes on welfare, and the welfare takes the john to court. The judge statea: "The childs' rights cannot be nullified by its' parents agreements." The man (john) has to pay until child turns of age. "Heard" as on a radio show (WEEI , Boston, Ma), as part of "legal peculiarities or ". "We always have time for what we like. Never enough time for what we don't want to do." bob early (Dec E-Net) TONTO::EARLY) (UUCP) decvax!decwrl!dec-rhea!tonto!early
