According to John Molloy, women in general are influenced by a man's
clothing.  That's not the "inner man," but it's a symptom.  Women
universally seem to admire self-assurance in a man--maybe that also
answers the queries about why women prefer jerks.

Warning: women have often been polled about this.  Don't believe the
polls unless you believe that what people think they want is what they
want!
