Message-ID: <3512@mit-eddie.MIT.EDU> Date: Sat, 18-Oct-86 00:19:05 EDT Article-I.D.: mit-eddi.3512 Posted: Sat Oct 18 00:19:05 1986 Date-Received: Tue, 21-Oct-86 08:06:13 EDT Sender: nessus@mit-eddie.MIT.EDU Organization: M.I.T. EE/CS Computer Facility, Cambridge MA Lines: 26 From: James J Dempsey Several people on my machine like new files and buffers to be created in text-mode by default instead of fundamental-mode. In V17, they used to do (setq default-major-mode 'text-mode). In V18, this doesn't seem to work. I have also tried (setq-default major-mode 'text-mode) and (setq-default default-major-mode 'text-mode) but new buffers still seem to be created with fundamental-mode. Am I doing something wrong? Has something changed in V18 to cause this to not work? I couldn't find anything in the etc/NEWS file. Particulars: My machine is a Vax 11/785 running Ultrix 1.2. The version of emacs is 18.25. Thanks. --Jim Dempsey-- BBN Communications, Inc. Cambridge, MA jjd@cc5.bbn.com ..!decvax!bbnccv!jjd
