Systems, Rochester NY Lines: 17 MS-DOS and PC-DOS may also differ slightly internally. I (fuzzily) recall two cases: 1. In DOS 2.?, the EXEC function call was located in the transient portion of COMMAND.COM in PC-DOS, but in the resident part of MS-DOS. 2. The MS-DOS programmer's reference manual mentions that the device driver loader of PC-DOS can only handle .bin style files, but the MS-DOS version can also handle .exe style files (!). It isn't obvious why these differences exist (if they do); maybe Microsoft has to deliver to IBM so far in advance that, by the time IBM releases its version of DOS, Microsoft has already added a few more features. - Dan Kegel seismo!rochester!srs!dan Disclaimer: I'm actually still asleep; the opinions expressed above are not those of my conscious mind.
