You might try Konrad Lorenz's latest popular book. He spends a good deal of space near the beginning discussing this subject. Unfortunately, I can't seem to remember the title--something about the history of ethology, I believe. It's for sale at our local Dalton's, and I assume elsewhere. P.S.
