We had this problem with our vt100-compatibles: Whenever the terminal couldn't catch up with the computer, like when deleting a large area of the text on the screen, it would report some errors and then start up again with the emacs saying: I-search: ^Q Now the terminals have a 2 kB buffer memory, so that's no problem any more.
