Lines: 20 Keywords: Smalltalk, Flavors, CommonLoops, PCs Xref: mnetor comp.ai:42 comp.lang.smalltalk:16 comp.graphics:29 comp.sys.ibm.pc:164 I'm looking for a powerful but fast object-oriented programming language/environment for PCs. This system needs to have very complete graphics extensions and be able to run on one of two machines. The IBM PC/AT or the Atari 1040 ST. Since, it is going to be used for real-time processing/display over a high-speed network, one of the over-riding consideration is speed. The only Smalltalk implementation on the PC that I have had a chance to use was extremely slow because of the swapping of objects off of the hard-disk. Given the presumption of many megabytes of real memory on the PC which will run the o-o environment, what language would you people choose to use? Does anyone have any experience with Digitalk's Smalltalk/V for the IBM PC? -Eli Liang (temporarily at tk@cvl.umd.edu or ...!seismo!umcp-cs!cvl!tk) -- Tharakesh Siddalingaiah --- University of Maryland Computer Vision Lab, (301) 454-5858 ARPA:tk@cvl.umd.ed UUCP:{seismo,allegra,brl-bmd}!umcp-cs!cvl!tk
