Though not PD, a $50 (less at discount) program that works well for screen fonts is FONTastic, by Altsys Corp., Plano Texas. Be careful never to edit files directly in the System file, or even to use FONTastic to move fonts into there - use the Apple Font/DA Mover for that. -Brian Diehm Tektronix, Inc.
