I am passing on a request for information from Hillsborough Community
College, here in Tampa, Florida:

1) I have a VAX 11/780 running under VMS and we have a need to expand
   our ports from approx. 75 ports to 150+ ports.  A sales person
   is trying to sell us a "DCA 355 - Port Contention Unit" for $15k-20k.
   a) Is this worth buying?  What kind of experiences has anyone had
      with a dca 355?  Is this price reasonable?  Are there alternatives
      to this kind of equipment?
   b) What is the most economical way to provide this number of ports
      on a VAX?

2) I would be interested in getting software that would allow connection
   to USENET with my VAX under VMS.  Does this exist, and who can I get
   a copy from?  What kind of compiler is required (C?) ?
