When emacs is exited, this hook would be called with the buffer or process as its parameter. This would solve a problem I had recently where I wanted to send an EOF to a process instead of just killing it. Also, the mail problem could be solved this way. RMAIL may at some point want to take advantage of this as well. I do not believe this feature already exists but if it does, please let me know.
