Don't underestimate the difficulty of getting a good serial protocol.  Given
adequate CPU crunch on both ends, UUCP will run high-speed lines at near
theoretical maximum throughput for hours on end, even in the presence of
substantial error rates.  This is *not* trivial.  Not grossly difficult,
either, but to do it takes knowledge and effort.
