Comer is reportedly coming out with a PC version of Xinu, along with other revisions and a revised edition of the book. (Personally, I thought it was fun to do the port myself.) 2. The head of the CS Dept. at SPU found a practical application for Xinu: process control. He installed the kernel on a 68000-based metal lathe controller to handle interrupts from the various sensors. It was simple (owing to Xinu's design) and quick (a couple of weeks). One doesn't always need a full user interface...
