Before everyone starts another round of me-too and the like, let me point out that there are TWO different talk-like programs written just for System V sitting in the mod.sources archives. They are called sysVtalkA and sysVtalkB. One uses named pipes (FIFOs) and the other uses message passing. Even if you don't want 'talk', these programs are rather good examples of using these facilities under System V.
