I'd like to insert some disk routine monitor code that sees every call to the disk read/write routines. At strategic intervals, yet to be determined, it would return a "media might have changed" status instead of a "success" status to the caller of the routines. Since GEMDOS uses these routines it would now sometimes get a media change from the hard disk. I am aware that this will not solve the 40 folder problem, but would it help at all in postponing the symptoms?
