Hiding files is some simple protection from Novice to Intermediate users who do not have the tools I use to change file attributes or view all files and their attributes. We specifically instruct users as to the commands they need. A hidden program (on our DOS 3.1 systems) can still be run, but can not be copied or deleted, or generally located by the user via normal methods available to them. This is in addition to the protection afforded by HIDE and SEEK as I described in the earlier response. It is not a fail save systems, but in its simple way is quite powerful.
