RSX is inherently a multi-tasking system. CP/M appears to be an outgrowth of RT-11. RT-11 was an outgrowth of OS/8 on the PDP-8. This brings things around full circle, since the architecture of the 8086 is somewhere in between the PDP-8 and the PDP-11.
