If you have an early PC, you need a ROM BIOS upgrade to use a hard disk.
There's a software device driver you can install that will let you use
the hard disk after booting from floppy, but the $ 40 rom upgrade will
solve your problem better.  If you don't want to get it from the IBM
dealer, I think FixT from Golden Bow Systems does the same thing.
