I forgot to mention the price of the Anchor Automation Signalman
Lightning 24 external modem.  I got it for < $300, so it's not
all that expensive.  Be warned, it does NOT have any error
recovery hardware; when I get a lot of phone noise, it tends
to garble a character or two.  However, this isn't often,
and it's all the fault of the local phone company (who'll
be fixing it any day now...).
