Assuming you're using DOS 3.x and ProComm 2.4.x, include this line
in your environment (put in your AUTOEXEC.BAT):

   set procomm=c:\xxx

where xxx is the path of the directory where your keep procomm's
.PRM, .DIR, etc. files. When you invoke ProComm, it looks for the
the environment variable procomm= to find its files.

Using the TSR program called SEARCH may lead to the downloading problem
mentioned (don't know, haven't tried it). However, you can indicate to
ProComm a pathname for its download directory by going <alt-S>, choose
item 4 (general setup), then choosing item 2 (d/l path). Be sure you
end this path and xxx above with a \ character. That should fix you up.
