I have posted about this before and I just like to mention again
about the Sinclair QL...  Now it's not an Amiga or a ST but if
you want to play around with a 68000 based machine with descent
graphics and multitasking the $200 dollar investment for it is
well worth it until you make up your mind about the Amiga or
Atari...

Personally I'll take a QL over the ST but not sure with the Amiga :-)
