If it happens with multiple System versions from multiple sources, then it
may be in the ROM, though this seems unlikely.  Open up the Mac and another
Mac, swap ROMs (they're the two socketed chips on the motherboard - be
careful with them, those pins do break), boot both machines, and do
something that always creates the problem on both.  If it is a ROM problem,
re-swap the chips and take the machine to an Apple dealer to get a new set
of ROMs while you're still under warranty.  Otherwise, take it to the dealer
anyway and hope he can find the problem.
