Apple does not claim all rights to windowing technology.  They claim
rights to pull-down menus (which are actually not as nice as pop-up
menus, in my opinion) and to the `look and feel' of the Mac.  There
are many other ways one could build a windowing user interface, so
Apple's claims only moderately impede other companies.
