The Icon Programming Language, as developed by the University of
Arizona, is now available as a Macintosh Programmer's Workshop tool.
It is public domain and is distributed by the U of AZ for the cost of
distribution.

The Icon language has nothing to do with "icons" as the term is
generally used in the Macintosh world.  It is of SNOBOL4 geneology
(author: Ralph Griswold) and is a wonderful language oriented toward
non-numeric computation.  Anyone interested in obtaining MacIcon (which
currently *requires* MPW) for "almost free" should contact:

Icon is a wonderful tool for developers since it allows "little"
utilities to be written almost as quickly as you can think of them.
Then, of course, is its use for prototyping things like compilers,
etc., etc.  And to answer your first question before you ask it --
there is no Mac Toolbox interface -- yet.
