For example, the latest version of TeX (v1.3 I think) for VAX/VMS comes with a pd version of a previewer. It could (I only read about this in the TUGBoat, have not seen or use it yet) preview dvi files on VT100, VT220, VT240/241, TEK4010, and ANSI terminals. As for the micros go, most of them also come with (or you can buy) previewers.
