I just finished un-upgrading our uVAX-I from VMS V4.4 to V4.3 (because of the flaky DEQNA and our Internet software crapping out on it) and I discovered some interesting things: When I first installed V4.3 (after all reasonable backups and such) and all chosen options from the SYSP, USER, UTIL, PROG, and other subsets, the machine tried to boot up as a cluster. (I had also installed DECnet but not the End Node Key.) [On bootup it complained that CLUSTRLOA.EXE was missing.] Using B/5, I found that AUTOGEN had set my VAXCLUSTER to a value of 1, which I reset to 0 and made DRYCAS happy to be alone. After this was done, I noticed that the PID for SWAPPER was 00000010. Normally (when I ran 4.3 before and when I was running 4.4) it was 00000040. After I installed a few more packages, SWAPPER returned to its normal 00000040. On our 8650 running V4.4 (and recently clustered), the PIDs are 2140xxxx (now, anyway...sometime before I could have sworn they were 2040xxxx). Am I confused or is there logic to this? --Marc Shannon CMU Computer Club SYNFUL@DRYCAS.Bitnet
