If so, from where can I get it, price, performance? I seem to remember a SNOBOL processor for the VAX in one of DIGITAL's books on available software, but I don't remember any of the details. However, I was wondering if you have considered using VAX/TPU? From what I can remember of SNOBOL, TPU seems to give you all of the same constructs in a much more structured language that, undoubtably, will run faster. Actually, VAX SCAN would be a closer match - though IT you have to pay for, while TPU comes free with VMS. There are at least two VAX SNOBOL implementations around. The original BTL SNOBOL, ported to many, many machines, was ported to the VAX years ago by someone at TRW. It's been on DECUS tapes at least once. There is also a commercially-available version of SNOBOL, with extensions, named Macro SPITBOL. It's supposed to be MUCH faster. I believe it is sold by a company called Dewer Software, or something like that (named after Bob Dewer, at NYU last I heard, who developed it). -- Jerry -------
