In addition to my earlier comments --
MAIL>EXTRACT/ALL file_name
will create file_name.TXT in your default directory,
without the initial <FF> line.
However,
MAIL>EXTRACT/ALL/MAIL file_name
will create file_name.MAI in your designated MAIL directory
with the required <FF>.

Moreover,
MAIL>SET FILE file_name
will look for file_name.MAI in your mail directory.
