The SDPD can carry the Beretta 92F but not the 92SB, which has the magazine release on the bottom (bad in combat shooting). I think the choice between a P226 and 92F is personal preference (particularly the S-S's lack of a safety) and price. Both are considered very reliable, accurate guns with 15-round magazines. When I looked into buying a gift for a would-be police officer, I chose the 226, because of a special price and it's slightly more concealable. It's worked out quite well.
