This first came to mind as a silly idea, but then I thought about it for a moment and decided it might have merit. We all know that TV is mostly crud. The CBC may be a bit above average, but it's not a major exception to the general statement. This suggests to me that most of the money spent on CBC TV is not a terribly good investment in Canadian culture. Unless this can be changed -- how? -- it should stop. Now, I have no idea what proportion of the CBC budget goes where, but I suspect that physical realities put an awful lot of it into TV production.
