Lines: 14 I have seen one paper with numbers on all of this. It is from ACM SIGARCH Computer Arch. News, probably sometime in late 85, early 86, called Reduced Register Saving/Restoring in Single-Window Register Files Tomas Lang and Miquel Huguet and deals with various schemes in a UN*X PCC environment. Unfortunately, they specifically do not deal with optimizing compilers. I am unconvinced that the rather complicated call/return instructions they propose are superior to RISC but it is interesting reading. Bob Weiler.
