I worked a while, and had a good summer student doing even more work, on using 20/20 for various in- house things and I agree that the report-writing capability is weak. If you have access to Ingres on your unix system you'll find it much more suited to your needs; if not Oracle might have similar kinds of things. In general, not very many people have had success matching Unix into the kind of application you describe without jumping in with both feet and using databases.
