I have no complaints at all about the speed of the product. My PC/XT is a high speed 8 MHz machine and I always use the high speed when using INFORMIX. Also, I might note that I use a 30 meg hard disk with INFORMIX. I don't really beleive that one could use INFORMIX on a floppy drive system. As far as other DBMS products, I have not used any other product on my PC/XT as much as I have INFORMIX. Since we use INFORMIX at work and I have INFORMIX at home, any requirement I have for a database I find myself using INFORMIX, which I feel is a very mature and complete development product. An associate of mine does a lot of commercial programming in DBASE II with which he is very familiar. He is also an avid user of INFORMIX at work. He prefers INFORMIX to DBASE II, but it is not available on his clients systems. Although we have not ran any kind of benchmark on either product, we have heard that DBASE II or III runs fairly slow on the PC because they interpret text files. As far as being a complete development system DBASE III+ may be somewhat more comparable to the INFORMIX product. If some benchmark results are of interest, I might be persuaded to provide some on the INFORMIX PC (ie: dbbuild,keyed query,etc). /|==========================================| / | David Barker | / | RDA Logicon | / | Tacoma Wa USA | / | | / | trwrb ----\ | / | psivax ---|-!logico--\ | / | ism780c --/ \ | | | -!slovax!tron | | | hplsla ---\ / | | | fluke ----|-!tikal---/ | | | uw-beaver / | | /==========================================/ | / / | / / | / / | / / | / / | / / |===========================================/ -- /|==========================================| / | David Barker | / | RDA Logicon | / | Tacoma Wa USA | / | | / | trwrb ----\ | / | psivax ---|-!logico--\ | / | ism780c --/ \ | | | -!slovax!tron | | | hplsla ---\ / | | | fluke ----|-!tikal---/ | | | uw-beaver / | | /==========================================/ | / / | / / | / / | / / | / / | / / |===========================================/
