PreScript is an "image description language" that is used to standardize
how scanned images should be described; this allows various scanner
manufacturers and software developers to have compatibility with each
other.  It has nothing to do with PostScript except that a PreScript
image may find its way into a PostScript file at some time (after being
converted into PostScript).

Yes, Sun NeWS can be thought of as a PostScript clone; CCS-Page from
Control C Software (formerly called C-Script); and a PostScript controller
clone from Phoenix Software.  If anyone knows of any others, let me know,
as I'm thinking about an article on PostScript clones.
