You might mention the (Hayes compatible) Haba 1200 to your friend. I picked one up for around $200 new at a local shop (Fry's, for you South-Bay-Areites) and have had no problems with it except that its defaults include autoanswer - take a power hit while you're away and it answers the phone before your answering machine can. I unplug the phone line when not using the modem. ...Kris [Yes, $200 is twice what Rick was looking for, but $0.18/baud, new in the box, ain't bad.] -- Kristopher Stephens, | (408-746-6047) | {whatever}!amdahl!krs Amdahl Corporation | | -or- krs@amdahl.amdahl.com [The opinions expressed above are mine, solely, and do not ] [necessarily reflect the opinions or policies of Amdahl Corp. ]
