I've had my ASDG 2 meg expansion & Mini-Rack C about a week now. The extra memory is fantastic, but what prompts this posting is the RRD software. I've been doing a lot of fooling around with the extra memory and VD0:, just to see what can be done. I doubt that ASDG guarantees the following, but for what it's worth..... I was trying some of the old demos under 1.2, and a few won't work. Rather than shut down the Amiga to load 1.1, I decided to try ChangeKickstart, which showed up on a local BBS recently. ChangeKickstart allows you to do just that: change from 1.2 to 1.1 or vice versa. You just click on the icon, the screen goes nuts, then do a ctrl-A-A, and slap in the Kickstart disk you desire. Well after fooling around with 1.1 for a while, I used ChangeKickstart again to reload 1.2. I was very surprised when my VD0: was still there when my 1.2 Workbench disk booted up! Now THAT is what I call recoverable! Not just a reset, but 2 restarts with different Kickstarts were completely survived. Since my 1.1 Workbench isn't setup to use the external memory, I don't know what effect accessing VD0: from 1.1 would have on the ability to recover VD0: when returning to 1.2. Sorry if I sound like an ad for ASDG, but that RRD (Recoverable Ram Disk for new readers) is something else! Perry, any comments about the relibility of recovering VD0: when switching kickstarts? -- ================================================= Looking for non-Trek cute saying.... ================================================= Blaine Gardner @ Evans & Sutherland UUCP Address: {ihnp4,decvax}!decwrl!esunix!blgardne Alternate: {ihnp4,seismo}!utah-cs!utah-gr!uplherc!esunix!blgardne 560 Arapeen Drive Salt Lake City, Utah 84108 (801) 582-5847
