(The lady on the phone told me they were having contractions every few minutes, and that was January 25.) Anyway, I've been trying to use the narrator.device, playing with stuff in the ROM Kernel Manual. It all failed - usually with Guru Error 0000003 (address error, I think). Even the speechtoy source provided on the Manx 3.20a examples disk failed. I am doing this all under 1.2, and so I have to invoke the assembler myself, but have otherwise encountered no other problems. (I've compiled with and without the +L option on my 512K 1 drive Amiga 1000; the +L option cut down on the number of invalid ptr/integer WARNINGs.) Anyway... will Manx 3.4 fix this? Is it because things return longs and I'm expecting ints? (Though I've tried to avoid it.) As usual, any help is appreciated. All I really want is a simple function to open the narrator.device, and another that will talk when fed Arpabet phonemes. [Stupid question #835.] I recently modified the keymap and made some of my own fonts in order to print out foreign characters. (Esperanto characters, would you believe.) There are twelve characters which I nestled in starting at 0xc0. Using the SetFont and SetMap programs, I get the desired results. I cannot figure out, however, how to get a C function that will read in the 8 bit ASCII values into a char (or anything else). I also cannot find a very elegant way of setting the font and fontsize (mainly because of the Guru problems detailed above). Any suggestions? Your time and effort is appreciated. I admit I'm still a C peon.
