Grunau) Organization: Harvard Science Center Lines: 29 Well, in follow-up to Jim Omura's list of available "options" for graphical windowing environments to run on top of multitasking UNIX-like OSs on the ST, I think my tentative vote is for X-Windows -- it's about time we had some sort of standard, both in OS (UNIX or look-alike) and windowing environment. I also think it would be nice to make X-Windows run with MINIX as well as (or instead of) OS-9. One thing, though -- the original XEROX PARC project which started this whole business was centred not on windowing per se but on OBJECT-ORIENTED programming. Something like the Mac's windowing environment is not a good implementation of this concept, which I think is a sound one. I assume X-Windows is more along these lines?
