I once had the same problem, and it turned out that it _was_ printing something--it was just doing it so fast and returning to the desktop that I never saw it. (If you're running this program from a command line, then of course this isn't valid). Anyway, I've been using printf calls in my TOS programs (using the Alcyon compiler) with no trouble at all.
