Summary: opinions?

Does anyone have any opinions about the NEC hard drives?  I'm thinking about getting one for one of my father's PC's and I wanted to check first.  I've seen a number of them and they seem to have fewer bad sectors than the ST225's that I usually work with (they are my other option).  Specifically, how are they for long range work?  How long have they been out?  Who actually makes them (if not NEC).
