This is my first posting to the Net, so I hope this works. I recently obtained a copy of the Mac II pricing to schools in the Apple University Consortium. It seems to me that the Mac II is a very expensive machine. It has a lot of advantages, of course, with Mac compatibility, graphics and sound. But if what you want is a good Unix machine, then Sun seems to offer quit a lot more at a lower price. In quantities of 6, Univ. can buy Sun 3/52's at less than $8,000 apiece. That includes 4MB, 71Meg disk, 60Meg tape, the screen, ethernet, the works. A similar Mac II would evidently cost at least as much, more likely $10-12K. So is the MacII worth its price? That's not obvious to me. Jeffrey C. Kantor Department of Chemical Engineering University of Notre Dame uucp: ..!pur-ee!ndsun!jeffrey!jeff
