I have a friend who owns a small retail store. He is interested in computerizing and he is really insistent on using barcoding. I have read in some of the magazines about bar code readers for around $500, and I was wondering if these readers will read the UPC code on a product, or if you have to attach another sticker to each item. Also, does the bar code reader input data directly where the keyboard inputs its data or if the bar code reader goes through an RS 232 or other port. Please mail replies directly to patent@nadc.arpa.
