Yeah, tapes are reusable (we recycle them every 6 months) but like you say
one optical disk takes up very little room and if you can automate at least
the daily dumps because of the density and the fact that you could afford to
dedicate an optical drive to backups, it would be a real win. Plus your
backups are really archival (at least compared to the shelflife of tapes)

I wish we had the spare time / resources to pursue it!
