Well, you're half right.  The only thing consistant about UNIX commands, 
especially the options, is that they ALL work differently.  Check the
BUGS entry on every man page : "The (insert any letter) option does not
work the same as the (insert related command) (insert some other letter)
option."

True, you can get used to them.  True, I like it.  True, it's powerful.
It is NOT easy to learn, nor intutitive.  (But neither is life).

We really ought not to rain critisism on the messanager for speaking the 
truth.
